Who doesn’t like to have a nice smelling house with clean counter tops, laundry done, gourmet dinner on the table, checkbook balanced, errands ran, garden weeded…. Oh yeah- in your spare time- come to my house and do all those things! This article will not be ‘how to be Suzie homemaker’ but better- how to be a greener, cleaner, and meaner Suzie!
I was watching the news the other day and I’m pretty sure they said, “Everything will kill you.” Okay- maybe not, but isn’t that what it seems like? So if we are worried about shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, coffee (there is NOTHING wrong with coffee if you ask me), eggs, milk, plastic bags, and lettuce; why aren’t we worried about what we are cleaning our house with? Vinegar is a green and clean go to but what if you don’t LOVE the smell of it? I have a solution! I am so convinced this is a safe cleaner that I was not concerned when my nephew Mason (a future pitcher for the Tigers) decided that he should bite Charlie and Bullet’s (loyal outfielders) toys too! Below I have attached a few of my favorite recipes! I hope you enjoy!
Juice of 1 lemon
2 cups club soda
½ tsp of peppermint essential oil
1 tsp. cornstarch
Mix together and place into spray bottle. Use leftover newspaper as paper towel to save money! You will need to shake the bottle up a bit (the cornstarch will settle at the bottom). Fun fact that may be made up: Peppermint is supposed to keep spiders and bugs away!
Cost: about $1.48!
1 ½ hot water
1 TBS- ½ cup of Castile soap (Ivory soap works also)
1TBS white vinegar
1 TBS A&H washing soda
Couple drops of either peppermint essential oil or tea tree oil
Mix all ingredients together. Add hot water and stir until soap is dissolved. Let cook completely. Note- the less grated soap you use- the thicker it will be. This is why there is a range that you can use. This does not suds up a bunch.
Cost: about $.59
