Eco-Friendly Birthday Invitations and More!

Menu Planning Resource Pack

Attention: Giveaway is at the bottom of this post! Contest Closed!

My son is turned four a few weeks ago and as much as I wanted him to have a “green” birthday party and donate stuff…he wasn’t so into that idea. I resisted the request for a birthday party at his favorite place ever, the indoor arcade and mini-golf but then the thought about me not having to cook, clean or entertain and the idea sold itself to me. Actually, pleasing him and seeing him smile and jump for joy was what sealed the deal. I’m a sap. I wanted to at least have some earth friendly invitations and that’s when the Stubby Pencil Company™ found me. Thankfully! They sent me this box full of eco-friendly art supplies and 100% recycled cards and invitations. For a former preschool teacher, I was more excited than my son. The pack included a variety of Color’n Kids interactive note cards. Perfect for the birthday boy because he was able to color his own invitations but also help write the words with traceable letters.

Stubby Pencil Studio™ has a wide variety of funky, eco-savvy and completely kid trendy and approved art supplies. My son and I love craft and art projecst and when we are able to sit down with our monkey pencils that are chemical free, natural and practice his name, it makes us both happy!

Kate the founder and owner of the Stubby Pencil Studio™ was so excited about the launch of my new site; she decided to help with a giveaway. One lucky winner will get: “Green to the Letter” stationery kit from Stubby Pencil Studio™ including:
4 packs of Color ‘n Kids cards (winner’s choice of styles)
5 Smencils (winner’s choice of scents)
Box of 24 Soy Crayons
Box of 12 Forest Choice colored pencils

Want to win this kit? I do and I already have the stuff. Here’s what you have to do… Contest Closed.

Bloggers: Stumble, Digg or Kirtsy me and leave me a comment telling me what you did! How simple is that? Remember I can check so be honest. Non-Bloggers:

    Dugg!

We use everything and anything in our craft projects. I am also keeping egg cartons because I am positive we used to use them when I was in school but my husband thinks I am making it up…

When the kids were small, we always tried to use recycled products for crafts.

  • Gina Stratos

We use a lot of beeswax, especially on collages. My kids also like to make their own play-do.

We try to be creative and re-use items that might otherwise be thrown away, but have never tried items like these. Fingers crossed!

  • Meredith Peters

We use our egg cartons to plant seedlings and make little baskets rolled in glue and beads and filled with mini jelly beans!

  • susan varney

    use any and all recyclables

  • Kimberly

We try to re-use materials whenever possible – for example , we make gift tags out of the picture portion of Christmas cards received from the prior year. We use and make our own Wheat paste. Its great for gluing and can even be used for paper mache

  • Jennifer Barnett

I use anything that is lying around the house. I love to save all sorts of containers to use in art projects, if only to hold the paint or decorations.

  • Julie

    no not yet.

  • Margaret Smith

Thanks for this great giveaway. What a great way for kids to send cards to relatives and friends.
Yes, when doing crafts, we try to use “recycled” items. We’ll use plastic tubs from frosting, butter, etc. We also use plastic soda bottles and make animals out of them. Actually, my sons have gotten really creative in looking at something that we’d normally throw out or recycle and say, “Mom” we can make so and so out of this.
Thanks again and please enter me.

  • Rita A.

I always use recycled paper pads for sketching or to jot down notes.

  • adrienne gordon

the only green project we really do is walk the metroparks and discuss what effects the environment.

  • Linda Moeller

    We recycle all papers.

  • cathy copelan

We reuse as much of the plastic we have in the house as possible. We recently made hurricane in a bottle. This allowed us an opportunity to discuss what to do if we ever had an emergency.

  • K. Cleaver

A lot of what we use is recycled. I love going out in the summer to yard sales and buying up fabric, beads or any other junk I can find that the kids can turn into creations.

My little girls create all kinds of fun structures — from houses to sky scrapers, grocery stores to museums — with household boxes. My girls often use small cardboard boxes, such as cereal and pasta boxes.
I am looking forward to reading everyone elses responses. Thanks for such a great giveaway!

  • Terra Heck

Our family does not use any “green” arts and craft projects at this time, but I’ve been doing research on it and I believe that we are going to start using them when we are doing our arts & crafts.

  • kari follett

Sure, we use a lot of things that can be recycled for crafting. My daughter has made clothes out of old clothes, purses out of capri sun bags, etc. Thank you for the contest!!

  • galena penrod

I recycle the papers and crayons.

We go on nature walks and pick up stuff along the way and make collages out of them, try to find rocks that will “write” on the driveway, and re-use paper and make old drawings into new collages.

We turn everything into craft projects. My daughter is only allowed to give gifts she makes, and she has to make them out of stuff around the house (with the addition of paint, glue, etc.). We save the old wrapping paper and ribbons for collaging, and use old jars, egg cartons. etc.

  • Monique Rizzo

I havent done any eco-friendly projects, but would LOVE to!

  • Missy

We try and reuse lots of stuff around the house to make crafts with. Egg cartons work great holding different paint colors, plastic bottles can be cut and painted to form animals. I take home used office paper to color and paint on at home. All ribbons and bows from birthday/holiday packages get kept and then used to glue on art projects. Plastic bottles can also serve as musical instruments when filled with dry beans. Toliet paper rolls also serve as a great object to be painted and used to make some sort of creature.

  • pat s

I’m making re-usable shopping bags out of my stash of plastic bags from the store to use no more!

  • beth shepherd

We enjoy using green products. It teaches our kids things we never knew as kids.

  • Nikki Barger

I like to keep the house as chemical free as possible – and that even goes for our art projects!

I made sidewalk chalk-paint for my son to put creative designs all over our garage apron. A little cornstarch, a little food coloring, and some water – and PRESTO!

I always try to recycle. I am a teacher and I try to use crafts that are from recycle stuff. I always think, what can I use this for, before throwing something away. Thanks.

    Dugg!

And we use both sides of scratch paper for artwork. Then we either practice cutting skills with scissors to fill up an envelope with the little pieces (great fine motor work) or use the artwork as wrapping paper for birthday presents. And yes, we make our own cards, too… the kids love it!

  • Christine

egg cartons, toilet paper and paper towel rolls

Currently I don’t think we use any GREEN crafty supplies yet, as an artist I tend to use the real stuff.

  • Cindi

Greetings, I have found a site that has 3 tutorials that tell how to make plastic bags into purses and totes. They actually look very nice. It begins with the plastic bags, freezer/parchment paper, an iron and well-ventilated area! I am still learning the process. Thanks, Cindi

  • Jessica

We recycle crayons and make other crafts out of them….my daughter made her Daddy’s Father’s Day card out of melted crayons, wax paper, and cardstock!

  • Terry Cover

    Would be so nice.

I’m not sure what the kirtsy and other two things you mentioned as a way to enter this contest are. I’m assuming they are related to having a blog of my own, which I don’t.

I do, however, work with kids both as a former teacher turned tutor and with my niece and nephew….sometimes my cousins, too. We ALWAYS use the resources that we have around the house to make crafts. The kids actually LOVE this, too, and it’s so fun to see what they come up with as a way to reuse something in a new way.

I’d love to be entered in the giveaway. Thanks for the opportunity!!

My daughter only paints and draws on paper recycled from work!

  • Lauren Hinchman

At easter, we color free range or organic chicken eggs with natural dyes from things like tumeric (spelling?) spice – yellow, organic coffee, red cabbage, etc. This way we are not supporting the companies that make all of those dyes and we can feel safe about eating our organic colored eggs afterwards. This can be a fun project any time of year – not just easter. In the summer you could make natural dyes from leaves and flowers!

  • Bobbye F

I use green scrapbooking paper only! The paper quality is great and I’m saving a few trees!
