Green Religion Issue

Menu Planning Resource Pack

I’ve written about going green being like a religion and then there was the green religion debate with Nature Mom. I’ve even written about a Green Bible but there is more to the story involving actually religion and politics. Watch this and leave me your thoughts.

Very interesting. I have to say, that I would not consider my lifestyle to categorized as a “religion” per se. It’s just a way of life for me. It’s refreshing to see major religious leaders (the Pope for one) getting their heads out of the sand and realizing that the earth was not given to us to dominate and destroy…..something I know many people who are very conservative religiously around me disagree with. They like to shout creationist Bible verses at me that they think prove that Adam was given total control of creation to do with as he pleased. But I also know that many other people who believe in God, are now seeing what a gift the planet is and that we need to take better care of it, rather than using it all up and wasting it.

Did you see the news today about a lady who is riding her bike naked because she feels it connects her to nature? Woohooo free speech! I think if we all stopped to allow ourselves to find some connection with nature, we would see what a tremendous gift it is!! And perhaps get to know ourselves just a little better?? :)

I am just glad to see everyone taking an interest in doing right by Mother Nature. I can remember just a few years ago being called a “tree hugging hippie” in a negative way for simply recycling!! (Although they meant it bad, i took it as a compliment!)

I do think people use the “green movement” in a negative way, like to boost popularity, get a vote, etc. But as long as they’re getting the message out, i don’t care.

By the way, i would TOTALLY by a “green bible” :)

I also don’t know about being green as a religion, I do know that “The highest heavens belong to the LORD, but the earth he has given to man. Psalm 115:16″ Doesn’t that mean we are responsible for it just like we are to be responsible for our well being and raising up our children.

It is a gift for us to use respectably, which I don’t think we’ve really done in the last century or so. It is nice to have any leaders, religious or otherwise, promoting earth friendly messages.

    Thanks,
    Heidi

I don’t like the coin of religion. To me when it becomes religion it means man has had their hand in it, and therefore it will get messed up, just like we always mess things up!!

Everyone has some great points. I like how it has been pointed out that it is good that religious leaders are promoting earth friendly messages. They should. In my opinion.

I second what Butterfly Mama says. As a Christian, I see it as my responsibility to take care of the earth, God’s creation. Going green is not a religion to me, but rather a logical lifestyle. I also appreciate hearing that so called “religious leaders” are taking a stand for the environment, but Christians (and other “religious” people) need to step up and take care of creation whether their leaders are modeling it or not.

    Gidget read my mind.

Regardless if I believe God created the Earth or not, its my responsibility to take care of it. It’s a lifestyle choice. A choice I hope everyone makes regardless what they believe.

Great responses. I think what is being said about the green region issue is the segmenting and comparing it to a religion.

I have to agree with Beth. I couldn’t have said it better myself. If religous leaders are helping with the green movement all the better. I feel all it really take is awareness. The more people are aware change can begin.
