I Milked a Cow

Menu Planning Resource Pack

The last day of our vacation, it was over cast and cool so we decided that since the we flew hours down to Florida we might as well milk a cow. That makes sense, right? We apparently don’t have cows or farm animals in Michigan. We dropped a load of money to take the kids to a petting zoo that actually was a great deal of fun and in my opinion was more enjoyable than Disney for the kids. It was hands on and so hands on that this green mom milked a cow!

Congrats! Though I live on a farm, I have never milked a cow. An alpaca yes, cow no. Sounds like you had a great time!

Yes, we had a great time. You have milked a alpaca?

You’re just too awesome, Sommer! Now you can be in the cool cow milking club with my husband who used to milk the cows every morning before school :)

Oh geez! I’m not milking cows before school. This was a one time thing and my husband was so excited. I’m far from a farm girl! LOL!

  • Satish

How come you were the only one in your family to milk the cow? I’ve milked cows at several places. It is a lot of fun. I wish I ;d tried two handed milking. I’ll try two handed milking. I saw tjis video where in the girl is sitting with a bucket between her knees and is so comfortable from moving from one tit to the otherand then settles on two tits and then again moves from one tit to other and then settles on two tits.

I believe they could easily make an effort to insert green themes into all of their children’s TV shows. (recycling, resuing, etc.)

  • Suellen

The making of this movie is a move in the right direction for Disney. Disney is one of the biggest marketers of “movie theme stuff” – they need to start to use recycled materials for that “stuff”. Just imagine how much less “new plastic” might be produced. They also need to work hard at increasing awareness of the need for earth-friendly behavior in kids. Let’s face it – they are an influential force in our kids’ lives!

I think Disney could reduce their carbon footprint by making sure all their parks and resorts use things like the CFL lightbulbs. They could use less paper or recycled paper. I know they already do something in their resorts b asking guests to use less water and not to have their linens and towels be washed daily.

I think Disney could make recycling in the parks a priority! When I was last there in 2007, I don’t recall that being something they did. On the same token, they could also improve all of the food service type items(like cups, plates, etc.)that they use to serve guests at the quick service food counters. I believe where they do the most for the environment is in the Animal Kingdom. What a beautiful place!

You know, your post (and others around the web I’ve seen on this movie) make me think I really need to look into what Disney is doing in a positive way to reduse their carbon footprint behind the scenes. It is not overt when you visit their parks, but rather than me being so hard on them, I think I need to do more research.

Thanks for getting my wheels turning. (I live close to one park, so it really makes me think a lot about them and eco-frienldliness.)

  • suz

i haven’t heard much about this movie but i did watch the trailer and i think it would be worth the beautiful video to see the movie!
i did notice last time we went to disneyworld and stayed at one of their hotels that they had signs posted about reusing your towels and other things the hotels did to be more green. i’m sure there are much more things they could do though!!
are they donating any part of the profits from the movie to an organization that helps the environment? if not, that would be something they should do.

  • suz

(note:trying this again…posted once and it someone ended up under the “i milked a cow” post….hmmm…..guess i am technically challenged…)

Suz, we are trying to figure this out right now as well. We believe it is a WP plugin. Sorry!!!

  • Pat

Disney positive actions to reduce their carbon footprint are that they were very conscious of the welfare of animals and the planet when they filmed the movie. Disney is also spreading the message about the meaning of Earth Day to a wide audience. Thank you for the contest.

  • carol

Currently, Disney put out a new corporate sustainability report declaring its intention to reduce water use, cut waste, protect nature, head for zero-carbon emissions at its offices and parks and try to buy green electricity in future.

They can reduce their carbon footprint by building more monorails in Disney World, thereby cutting back on buses and their emissions. Thanks for the chance to win!

  • Tom

I think Disney does a good job overall….I think they could get rid of their lagoon parade that goes on seven seas lagoon each night- pretty much a waste and would save some elec.

  • http://www.thriftymaven.com catherine copeland

although Disney does provide monorail transportation between parks I wish there was more clean transportation provided at ancillary parking lots off Disney property for visitor. things like buses

I’m not sure what they are doing to reduce their carbon footprint. I do know it must be daunting to run the kind of resorts they do and still be green. I did see that their cruise line contributes a great deal to waste, I think I would start with that division and find ways to reduce the waste and be more green. I think putting out a statement is at least a start.

  • Diane Baum

Sorry, but I tink it will probably be ust a lot of pretty pictures. I sure hope that I am wrong!

  • Phil Estelle, Jr.

thank you for the offer,i would enjoy these with my family

i never trust large corporations like disney.. on one hand they are educating the youth but is there a flip side to it?

    The Whole Leaf Co.

  • Patty Hasbargen

This looks like one of Disney’s best

  • MRS.MOMMYY

its hard to believe disney does go green but they could really change alot at the parks- would lvoe to see them do it so who knows- green cleaners, less packing..would be neat to see but do like they teach kids

Disney could reduce their carbon footprint by actually meeting the long-term environmental goals they just published in their corporate responsibility report (e.g., zero waste and zero net direct greenhouse gas emissions from fuels). I like that they are promising to plant a tree in the Brazilian rainforest for every Earth movie ticket sold during opening week.

  • djp

    we are trying

    Just a test.

  • Marcia

I haven’t been to Disneyworld lately but at the last visit I was surprised at the number of plastic bags they gave out – some items were double bagged – not necessary Disney!

  • Carol

Disney is making movies that show the true wonder and beauty of nature. Without people being able to see what will be destroyed if action is not taken now to stop the environment problems.

  • Jill L

When I was in their store the other day, they told me they were making water bottles out of plastic bottles. They said on Earth Day, if I brought in 4 plastic bottles, they would give me a water bottle.

  • vicky boackle

    use less paper.

  • Laura

I like that Disney, while writing ambitious long term goals, had more immediate accessible targets. They have been spending a great deal of money on the Everglades preservations for sometime. They have been using Integrated Pest Management in place of toxic pesticides since the nineties. I applaud their concern to continue evolving and think that it sets a great example for other businesses and a reminder to individuals to green up their lives.

  • Denise

All I can think of is if they made all their movies using green products and in a more green way. Plus leaving the area they film at in the same condition they found it.

  • Tesa

Saw the trailer for the movie and it looks awesome. I hope everyone at Disney recycles and are trying to be as “green” as possible.

  • Dan

I like that they made this movie. That’s a start. They could build a monorail from the Orlando Airport right to Disney World so people wouldn’t have to take carbon-spewing taxis.

  • katie

Disney can reduce their carbon footprint by using single napkin dispensers at their restaurants in the theme parks. These encourage guests to take less napkins with their meal, creating less waste!

I love how Disney has preserved much of the land they own for conservation. They also support a green movement called Environmentality. Very eco-friendly!

  • beth shepherd

Thank you for a great giveaway! I would like Disney to have recycle centers at their parks. So attendees could deposit their trash that is recylable in them and then have a compost one as well. I like that they reuse the water in the water rides. Thank you

    THANKS

  • Kathy Amos

I like how you can save money and be green by using their transportation system at the parks.

I’d like to see them offer bigger discounts for folks who follow that route. It seems like it would be win win to me.

I would like to see them transform tommorowland to have a green theme. Educating kids is important and it would stick better if it was fun at the same time

  • Traci

I think they should make a law that every one should become green, dont you ?

  • Theresa Shafer

Disney can use more Solar and wind power. It takes more corporations going green to help the consumer to be more green.

    Disney is now recycling Styrofoam.

  • Julie K

Disney could serve more locally grown food at the theme parks to reduce the carbon footprint that importing food makes. I like how Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park has an animal conservation fund that raises millions of dollars for threatened animals.

  • Christine v

recycle more at all Disney parks

  • Kris T.

Disney could reduce their carbon footprint by selling fewer plastic trinkets to commemorate their movies. Perhaps more cradle-to-grave products like stuffed animals with all natural stuffing? At least Disney is being earth friendly with their educational and inspiring nature shows! Thanks for the chance to win the prize pack!

  • vicky

We have started a compost since moving and have changed all our lightbulbs to engery effiencent ones

  • Dan

Disney can be more earth friendly by using more renewable energy. They currently help by promoting earth friendly themes in movies and shows.

  • wendy wallach

to reduce their carbon foorprint they can reduce the packaging and inserts that you find in every DVD that they manufacture. What I like is that they are making nature fun again through their films.

Disney could put more subtle references to recylcing, etc. in their movies. Looking forward to this movie!
