This is one of my pet peeves. So many chemicals that children are exposed to everyday. And we all wonder why there is a raise in cancer rates among our children. Chemical in our water, food, clothes, house, cleaning products, personal products and etc. We have to educate those we love.

What are some safe options for kids? Does anyone have a good shampoo brand that they use that is not harmful. Geez...Now I am worried what is in my shower gel.. I suppose I can browse the soap section of "Whole Foods" or Trader Joes" . Thank you for this post! This is the first time I have heard anything about this.

Fantastic! YOU GO GIRL! I will refuse J & J and others that make the claim that they care...while our little ones are bathing in this JUNK. Pure JUNK. I have looked into many new-age companies who really do "get it" and will spend my money where it counts. We don't have a lot...but I will make a statement with what we do have. Continue on...you are doing us all a huge favor, and our kids! Don't let any "mom blog bullies" give you guilt. At the end of this life, we will all answer to "The Big Guy" incharge...I know he would love what you are doing. Standing strong to your morals. WOO HOO! As for my kids, we continue on our path of natural well-being with our trusted Vidazorb probiotics, organic foods and VALUES! Thanks sweetie, Caroline

Jennifer,

LOL, I can see you whipping that XRF analyzer out! See we all have issues that are dear and near to our hearts and that we feel most powerful about. You're so educated on the lead issue that is your weak spot but you're not confrontational and rude and you don't try to scare people. I do the same as you except when it comes to my niece - my poor sister!

Sommer - Thanks for posting on this again although you did take some heat last time. When it comes to friends, I rarely say anything directly - unless it scares the pants off of me - but do sometimes say "hey, I just tried this great product that is free of x - have you ever used it?" so as not to be confrontational. It is a difficult position because it can come off as if you are saying to somebody that they are a bad parent for using some product, and that isn't it at all. We all want our children to be safe, and questioning the safety of products that somebody is using challenges her decision making as a mom on a primal level. That being said, I had no compunction about saying something to a mom with a daughter mouthing a cheap looking charm. Whipped out the XRF and tested it for her - 860,000 ppm lead.

Yes we all know that to stand up for a cause or belief there are always those on the other side throwing punches but I remind myself it is for their kids and grand kids as much as it is mine. I really take a very easy going approach offline when it comes to being a "green activist" and like I mentioned to Courtney role model what I can, suggest alternatives and let them come to me. I'm not perfect and don't do everything "green" but I do try hard and somethings are more important to me than others but I'm open to learning and engaging in discussion on the issues. Opening the door to learning more verses standing on one side of the fence or the other. I don't want moms to feel like they're bad moms or can't change or do better - I'd rather help empower them and educate them to make smarter choices and tell the companies what they want.

It is hard Courtney and I usually don't say anything but rather suggest a great product I am trying and get them hooked on something else that is safer. Trying to be a role model and having them ask what I use means a lot. I think it makes sense to realize that this might not be something that someone is passionate about or that they believe is harmful or bad. We all have our own beliefs and opinions and even in my own family there are different sides to the issue but we're all friends and family regardless. I just decide what I'll put my efforts towards and hope someday they'll be really happy I have done so.
