How the heck does a mom reuse her Melamine dishware? You have a stack of this adorable divided tableware with cute characters and designs and now you discover that there are potential dangers associated with this cute product that you use to feed your child with on a daily basis. Eeek! Not the worst thing in the entire world if that was the ONLY toxic hazard but then there is a long list of other harmful toxins out there and you add it all up and it’s not pretty.
Solution…
1) As a parent you try to eliminate what you know is harmful.
2) As a parent you try to eliminate what you know is potentially harmful.
I like to equate this to walking across the street and my toddler. A) I eliminate the danger of my children walking across the street alone because they are not aware that that a car could turn the corner in two seconds – they are a TODDLER. I hold their hand and we walk across together safely. B) I know it is safe to play in my driveway, although the road is close by I see a potential hazard and I’m not certain of the dangers – therefore I supervise at all times to be safe and protect them.
Mind you this does not equal hovering for those that like to use the Love and Logic Terminology of Helicopter Parenting (um, I use this series and the book and I am not a helicopter parent).
Alright, what does a parent do with the Melamine dishware that is not recyclable and will site in our landfills and leach into our environment the toxic chemicals? Let me help you with some visuals but then by suggesting you contacts schools, daycare’s and nursing homes with these solutions and donate the tableware for any of these suggested uses, not for eating off of.
