Love the tips. Dave Ramsay's other big tip is to get out of debt! That's a challenge for a lot of families, and it's hard to start that fund when you have to pay off the debt first. We've made a plan for getting those credit cards paid off so we can save again. Two years ago, we wouldn't have made it without the "rainy day fund" we had saved. I had my appendix removed 2 weeks after having our first baby. It ate through a lot of that savings, but we didn't have to go into debt for it, at least.

A few friends and I have start swapping money saving tips each week on our blogs. We call it Thrifty Thursdays. We all live in different parts of the country, but the tips are things anyone can do. And it's nice hearing form other mom's in single income families, figuring out ways to live simpler, so we can strecth those dollars!

Library use is great when you have access to a large, well-stocked one. I swap books and DVDs on www.bookins.com and have been really pleased with the selection, value and quick turnaround. I estimate I saved about $400 last year. Bookins charges $4.49 total for each item delivered, which is a little more than services where you just pay exact postage, but the difference is worth it to me because of the ease of use and Bookins' quality guarantee that the other services don't have. I feel like the occasional treat of a fresh book or DVD helps sustain me through these tough times.
