Toss The Brown Bag

It’s back to school time and with that can come a lot of waste. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that of the more than 3,960,000 tons of plastic bags, sacks and wraps produced annually, 90 percent are discarded and end up in landfills or oceans. We can help lower that number and protect our environment by using re-usable baggies and lunch sacks.

Annie’s Homegrown, Stonyfield YoKids, Honest Kids and Seventh Generation are willing to help us toss the brown bags this back-to-school season. They have teamed up and are offering a free Kids Konserve lunch sack with the purchase of participating products July 1, 2011through September 30, 2011. They are excited to offer this promotion “We know lunches packed at home with real food are delicious, healthy options for kids,” said Aimee Sands, marketing director, Annie’s. “However, we also recognize that using new brown or plastic bags each day leads to unnecessary waste. That’s why we’re excited to launch this back-to-school promotion; it provides an easy way for families to reduce waste and be rewarded for trying a selection of products the whole family will enjoy.”

Consumers are invited to visit Annies.com/bts11, print out the form then mail in proof of purchase of all four brands. Annie’s Homegrown, Stonyfield YoKids, Honest Kids and Seventh Generation products are available at major grocery stores and other retail outlets nationwide. So, what’s Sand & Shell’s?

  • http://www.greensahm.com Stephanie – Green at Home Mom

A mix of cracked wheat and seashell pasta. The pasta is cooked like usual, the cracked wheat is coated in egg, cooked for a bit then cooked in water until it absorbs it all, two cups of water for every cup of cracked wheat. One of these days I want to try it with quinoa or something. A bit of butter is used to keep it from sticking together, plus some salt and pepper for flavor. My kids don’t like it if I add the onion the recipe asks for, but I can get away with some garlic.
