Everyone knows I like to make my own laundry soap, hand soap, etc. I love mixing and making different concoctions but sometimes, I have to leave it up to the professionals. The ones that actually have labs, formula, and test their product for safety and effectiveness – my kitchen lab doesn’t always cut it.
My husband is a mechanic and heavy equipment engineer and my son is his apprentice. This means each day they both come with grease from their head to their toes. It has been part of my life for 15+ years and as much as I’d like to think my DIY projects can clean everything, that unfortunately is not the case with these two grease monkeys.
My solution is exactly what my grandmother used to use, Dawn Dish Soap. It’s true. And, if Dawn is safe enough to help rescue more than 75,000 wild animals affected by oil pollution and environmental catastrophes for over 40 years, it’s safe enough to decrease the dirty knuckles before dinner each night. In fact, did you know that Dawn dish soap is the only dishwashing brand trusted by wildlife experts for decades?
Grease Remover for Hands – Gentle but Tough
Don’t fret, I can’t give up the DIY all together just because I buy something over the counter. To scrub the grease and grime stuck under the nails and in between the cracks and crevices of the fingers; I make my own little scrub with Dawn and keep it by the utility sink for the boys when they come home.
- ¼ cup of Dawn dish soap
- 3 Tbsp of table salt
- Plastic or glass container
Just dip fingers into the solution, lather, scrub and rinse.
Utilizing Dawn for Greasy Situations
- Spot treat greasy uniforms before washing them – just squirt Dawn on the greasy spots and scrub with a toothbrush. This is also effective for stains on the carpet upholstery when the boys get in my car with their dirty boots!
- Washing grease and grime off tools.
- Greasy Work Boots – Dawn, hot water and a toothbrush with some hard work cleans up dirty work boots in a flash.
