Yes, this is another post about camping but it’s not what you think; this is for all you parents that send your kids to summer camp while you’re plucking lushes fruit and veggies from your organic garden.

California Baby creator, Jessica Iclisoy, has come up with some earth-friendly care packages to send your kids while away at Summer Camp!

Here are a few ideas to get your green camp care package started:

Healthy Snacks: Food that fuels kids—try homemade granola, dried fruit, nuts and trail mix—rather than sending them on a sugar high, nuts and dried fruits will keep them energized for all of the activities their counselors have planned.

Outdoor Essentials: In my opinion, chemical-filled sunscreens, bug repellents and other personal care products don’t mesh with the green ethos of the great outdoors. Be sure to opt for a kid-friendly and a natural shampoo & body wash that biodegrades completely, sunscreens and insect repellents that will keep your little ones sunburn and bug-bite free—without toxic chemicals—during their days at camp are key. Many camps now require non-chemical sunscreens to keep their lakes healthy as many chemicals can kill fish and plant matter.

Love Notes: Nothing says “I love and miss you” like a hand-written note from Mom and Dad. Pick up a box of eco-chic note cards that are made from 100% recycled paper, some even have wildflower seeds embedded right into the paper fibers. Once your little camper has finished reading your loving words and his homesickness has been assuaged, he can plant the missive in the ground and spread your love for him and Mama Earth around.

If you don’t have any children or they’re too young for camp that doesn’t mean you can’t help. Call your local camps to drop off supplies or help support another family’s eco-friendly experience.

Personally, I will be donating supplies to our local alternative school. This summer the company I work for is teaming up with a local camp and taking kids that wouldn’t otherwise get a “traditional” camping experience the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. Have a great eco-friendly camping experience!!
