You know the green initiative has taken a turn for the better when large companies hop on board. It proves that companies are listening to the consumer and what responsible consumers want is greener more environmentally friendly options. Hefty wants consumers to know that they are working towards greener options, which includes their new Hefty basics paper plates.

Hefty is now offering paper plates that are free of inks, dyes or coatings and are biodegradable in-home compostable. The plates are a greener option in comparison to traditional paper plates without compromising a good product. The plates are sturdy and didn’t leak even after I pored water on it. I wanted to test the leak factor; I hate when you fill your plate with fruit, pasta salad or some other liquid based food and it leaks through the bottom of the plate. The plates come in both lunch and dinner plate sizes and are safe to microwave. Hefty was kind enough to send me a note printed on seed paper with soy ink to inform me about their product, way to go Hefty. My only recommendation would be to change the packaging, the plates still come wrapped in plastic.

Not only has Hefty chosen to make greener options for their consumers but they have partnered with Arbor Day Foundation to help plant 10,000 trees, one for every ten new “Likes” on Facebook. So go ahead and” Like” Hefty!
