Mothers are special but so are aunts, grandmother’s, teachers and everyone woman who takes care of others. Each mother’s day my grandmother would get me a mother’s day card, even before I had children. At first this confused me but she tenderly explained. I was a mother to lots of children. I was a teacher who was mothering and taking care of little one’s all day long. I was wiping their noses, teaching them to share, feeding them and watching over them and loving them a mother. This changed how I viewed mother’s day, even now as mother of two. I don’t think of the day as just a day to honor someone who gave birth to us. Though that is very special too, don’t get me wrong. I just now look at mother’s day as a day where we can honor not only our “mother” but those that are like mothers to us. Whether that mother figure is a friend, an older sister, a neighbor, a grandmother or a teacher, they should be thanked for all they do.
So who is like a mother to you, besides just your mom?
For me, it was always my grandmother’s and I miss them very much. Today, it’s my sister and my aunt. Both of whom give me wise advice and love me unconditionally. They’re like mother’s to me in so many ways. I call them for help, ask for their opinion and so much more.
In honor of Mother’s Day, here are some of my favorite quotes. I hope you share these with whoever is like a mom to you.
If I had a single flower for every time I think of you, I could walk forever in my garden.

Motherhood is near to divinity. It is the highest, holiest service to be assumed by mankind.
-Howard W. Hunter
God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers.
An ounce of mother is worth a pound of clergy.
Motherhood has a very humanizing effect. Everything gets reduced to essentials.
