Pink slime in our meat, gross! There always seems to be something when it comes to our food, some outbreak or cross-contamination scare with children hospitalized or people becoming ill.  It’s scary and as a concerned American I have questions about how food is grown and raised. The movie Food Inc. scared me enough that I was starved for days uncertain what to eat. Questions about whether my food is safe, how it is grown where did the beef come from and does that farmer care about those chickens? Tell me you have questions and that you worry sometimes too?

Seeing that I’m not going to start my own farm it’s comforting to know there’s the U.S. Farmer’s & Ranchers Alliance (USFRA) that was started in 2010 to lead a dialogue about American agriculture and to help us get some answers about food and food production. Talking helps to solve problems, create understanding and clear up an misunderstandings. So let’s talk.

The key is DIALOGUE which means we have to get involved as Americans – which is the point of this post. Your thoughts, concerns, questions, opinions and stories about American agriculture are wanted! The Food Dialogues is a great place for you to go and find answers and ask questions. What do you want to know about sustainable farming? How do you feel about organic certification or what the heck does that mean anyhow? Voice your opinion on antibiotics and the concern for these to be found in the food you eat! When I watched the “Learn About Your Food” videos I was surprised at all the information I did not know that I thought I knew.  Watch it and tell me what you think, did you learn a lot? It was good to learn that farmers have regulations and that they are continuing to learn and improve!
