Smoothies are a great meal replacement, a healthy breakfast or a post work workout meal. I’ve been talking a lot about adding smoothies to your daily routine, how to get started and even some great starter recipes but there are a lot of extra add-ons to include into your smoothie routine that will help keep things exciting and delicious. Here are a few of my favorite extras that I add to my smoothies:

Protein powder: I always add two-three scoops of a Shaklee 180™ powder. This turns my smoothie into a meal to help me maintain a healthy balance, feel full and maintain my blood sugar.

Nut butters:  I like to add an extra bit of protein if I have a smoothie after I work out for my lunch but no overdo it because I’m watching my calories too! I like to use almond butter, peanut butter and sometimes hazelnut butter. This makes my smoothies extra creamy!

Honey or Maple Syrup:  I don’t do this very often but sometimes if I need to change it up I’ll add a bit of sweetness to my smoothie. Living in Michigan we have some amazing fresh maple syrup options and raw honey that sometimes I just cannot resist!

Cacao Powder:  I love chocolate and when I’m out of my chocolate Shaklee 180™ smoothie mix I will add a ½ tsp. of cacao powder and ½ a banana to make a delicious chocolate and banana smoothie. It hits the spot when I’m craving something sweet and if I freeze this, it becomes a delicious dessert too!
