Making your own salsa from fresh homegrown vegetables or farmers market ingredients, isn’t as hard as you might think. You can make yourself one small batch for some avocado tacos or several batches and can them for months of tasty goodness. I’m more of one jar at a time kinda girl but my friend Lindsey has a huge garden and loves canning and likes just about everything homemade like homemade spaghetti sauce or her canned dilly beans. She’s a tremendous cook and has given me lots of tips on canning, making my own fruit rolls ups and so much more. Which is why I had to share her recipe for making your own salsa. It’s easy and SO delicious.

Back to basics- Salsa Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 7 cups cored and peeled tomatoes
  • 2 cups chopped onion
  • 1 cup chopped green pepper
  • 6-8 chopped jalapenos
  • 3 cloves chopped garlic
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • ¾ cup white vinegar
  • Squeeze of lime (optional)
  • Cilantro to taste (optional)

Directions:

Add all ingredients together and cook for about 30 minutes. Stir frequently. Place hot salsa in hot jars and place 2 piece lids. Hot water bath can for 20 minutes.
