This summer my family has been taste testing a variety of frozen treats to help fight off the heat.
We’re even making our own and having fun experimenting with different recipes. The kids love to see whose tastes better, or worse for that matter!
Time To Try Minute Maid Juice Bars
I was recently asked to review the Minute Maid Juice Bars.
After doing some research I learned they’re low in calories and they have no high fructose corn syrup.
So, they’re definitely worth a try, even if for just those two reasons. After all, it’s hard to find a popsicle that isn’t neon green or made with high fructose corn syrup.
The Minute Maid Juice Bars actually only have 9 grams of sugar – which surprised me because they taste like they are sweet. I expected them to exceed 14 grams because of the sweetness! I was pleasantly surprised.
Made With 100% Apple Juice
They’re made with 100% apple juice. Of course, if you read the label you see this is from concentrate, but then again, what juice-based product is not these days. There are “other” natural flavors in there also. I find it’s always important to look at the label.
Are They Healthy?
So are these frozen treats the healthiest I have seen for my child, not at all. But let’s ask a better questions – are they terrible in comparison to others I’ve seen on the market? Definitely not.
Do they taste good and are they an okay frozen snack from time-to-time? Yes, for sure. In fact, they’re very delicious and flavorful so be warned the kids will ask for more than one!
My Review Summary
If you’re looking for something that’s affordable, easy to find at your local grocery store and isn’t loaded with 20 grams of sugar per serving, these are definitely worth a try.
My kids really like the grape flavored juice bars. Dad does too (so they are great for the whole family)!
I’d like to see Minute Maid have a packaging that is also biodegradable and perhaps even lower their sugar content in the future. And while we are at it, why not have 100% real fruit juice bar that is organic or with chunks of real fruit! That would be tasty!
Hats off to Minute Maid for making a frozen snack that uses fruit juice verses artificial flavorings and one with much lower sugar content then some popsicles!
