Have you heard of Stitch Fix’s subscription box program where each month you get a “Fix” sent to you full of fashion finds. Fashion finds that are sent to you based on your personal preferences and size. Each subscriber is assigned a personal stylist that decides what to send you, based on colors you like, whether you want accessories or if you’re looking for something special?
The box arrives and you have three days to decide to keep the items or ship them back. If you buy everything in your box, you get a 25% off discount. If you don’t like anything, it’s free shipping and they provide the label and package. It’s that easy.
I Am Not Paid To Say This
Here’s the TRUTH about Stitch Fix and I’m not paid to tell you this. I’m not an affiliate and this is not a sponsored post. I’m a subscriber and I have been since 2013. YES, 2013 and so I’m telling you like it is based on years of having boxes arrive.
Basically, this is a very personal review based on years of experience.
My Personal Experience
These are some of the things that I have experienced and want to share with you in my review of Stitch Fix. Things that I think you should know and will help you make a decision about whether to subscribe and give it a try.
Are All The Boxes Full Of Things You Will Love?
Not every box is full of items that I keep. This is maybe one of the biggest things people worry about, but in the end you have no obligation or payment. So, it’s not biggie.
Some things that come in the box are great. And some suck. But the sucky ones are because I’ve failed to actually communicate with my stylist that I gained 5 pounds or that the pants she’s sending me are too short, for example. Most of the time, it is not because they send irrelevant or incorrect stuff. You just need to understand that it is a learning process.
The boxes that arrive and aren’t worthy of keeping come down to my lack of communication and feedback. The stylist isn’t in my home seeing what I’m trying on and she can’t read my mind. I need to communicate better. So, that is something you have to keep in mind. As time goes on, the process gets better. But you won’t get 100% success and definitely not in the beginning.
Can Or Should You Cancel?
I’ve considered cancelling and giving up on my monthly FIX boxes. And then I realized that it’s like shopping at any store. Sometimes I hit a home-run and fill my cart, everything fits and other times, nothing works and I leave frustrated.
Sometimes my disappointments in my boxes have to do with my own mood on the day the box arrives. So people, if you sign-up, try something on more than once. And give things a chance, or some time to stew.
And remember that staying at home and trying things on is so easy and way easier than making multiple trips to the store. So, even if you don’t buy anything this month, it’s ok. It’s a normal part of the shopping process.
Is The Quality Great?
The quality hasn’t always been stellar. I’ve actually had to ask for a refund or exchange because a sweater has a small hole or a missing button.
The good news is, the customer service is amazing and they always work with me to make me a happy customer. Exactly why I stick around and haven’t quit after all of these years. I take the good with the bad.
But if you compare that with going to a real store, is it much worse? How many times have you tried something on and failed to see that pulled stitch or hole in the back? And then had to return to the store personally. At least with Stitch Fix you can just put it back in the box and a new one will be shipped to you. Easy peasy!
Am I Happy With Stitch Fix?
I can honestly say that the happiness outweighs any disappointment I’ve had.
There are many, many boxes that I’ve kept everything in the box or at least one or two pieces! When my Fix arrives, it’s like Christmas day. I’m always excited! I’ve kept so many pieces over the two years that I’ve been a subscriber.
The key is to tell the stylist why you love what you’ve kept so she can do it over-and-over again. Don’t keep your opinion to yourself. Feedback is key. And will help them and you have way more success with the program over time. And that is what it is all about, right?
Is It Really A Time Saver?
Stitch Fix, and having things shipped to me at home really saves me time. I don’t have a lot of time to shop. I work full-time, I’m a mom and I run a business. You probably have the same kinds of issues.
So, trust me when I save this. Having such a service really saves me time. Especially if I let my stylist know I need something specific. Time is money, at least in my book. And if that is something you believe too, then maybe it’s time to give it a shot.
How Expensive Is It?
So, you are probably asking yourself – what’s the average price?
I’d like to see a lower price point for some t-shirts and scarves, for example. This is one area where I think they can improve.
The average price point is around $55. But depending on the month, it has varied for me.
If the price is too high, I tell my stylist and hopefully my feedback helps them send me things more in my price range.
Keep in mind though, that if you do grab everything in the box you also get 25%, so if you are on the fence about just one or two items because of the price, remember to take a quarter off and see what you think now.
Are All The Products Eco-Friendly? (If That’s Important To You)
Unfortunately, when it comes to clothes, things are often not so green. I’ve asked a few times for eco-friendly clothing or organic cotton but with no luck. After all, it depends on the manufacturer. And let’s face it, not many are worrying about the environment like we do. So we need more demand to get the supply! So keep asking, please.
I do recycle any boxes or packaging material but it would be cool if the company tried to use recycled packaging and off-set their carbon footprint. It’s a small thing, but it makes all the difference, right?
Fingers crossed they do this soon, I’m hopeful.
Would I Sign Up Again?
I’m glad I signed up and I urge you to give it a try. That’s the TRUTH!
It saves me huge amounts of time. I get lots of things in the mail I never would have thought of myself. And I can return everything for free if I don’t like it.
What’s not to like!
So sign up today and give it a shot, you can always cancel. If you use my referral link, I do get a $25 credit but only after your first Fix ships. Good luck and if you try it, please let me know what you think.
